Basic Self-Help
As you all know, users at CUMC have multiple login accounts used to access different CU/NYH systems.
UNI:  All Columbia University employees are assigned a UNI.  Each UNI is unique and it is constructed from your initials and numbers.  It is used to access CU website services (RASCAL, ARC, https://my.columbia.edu, etc).  To manage your UNI, please go to: http://uni.columbia.edu.

CUMC Exchange email account (MC domain account) – CUMC employees are assigned an exchange e-mail account such as, UNI@cumc.columbia.edu.  This account uses your UNI ID as well, but since it’s a different authentication system, the password is not related to the other account.  The same account (and password) is also use to sing to CUMC computers connected to MC domain.  To manage it, please go to: http://cumc.columbia.edu/it/howto/domain/mypassword.html

NYH account - to manage it, please visit: https://infonet.nyp.org/

EMAIL
Accessing email accounts:
Users are able to access their CUMC Exchange e-mail account via any web browser at: https://mail.cumc.columbia.edu/owa  (also, for easy remembering, you can go to main CU page (http://www.columbia.edu) and click on Email/CUMC Outlook Web Access

.

NYH users can go to https://infonet.nyp.org/

SECURE TEXTING
This is an application that is being offered by CUMCIT.  However, it requires a DA’s approval.  We are still evaluating the security issues but at this point recommend AGAINST moving ahead with this application for your faculty.

REMOTE ACCESS
Wi-Fi access:
Due to security purposes, CUMC users are to use the secure Athens wi-fi service.  You will need to use your UNI and UNI’s credential (Not your exchange or MC domain credentials) or your CWID (hospital credential). It required additional components to be installed to establish the wi-fi connection.  Please contact your IP support group for additional details.  Software available for CU employs:
You can find available software at: http://cumc.columbia.edu/it/getting_help/software.html

Additional info can be found at: http://cumc.columbia.edu/it/

DATA STORAGE and BACKUP

Point person Felix Torres

There are two ways that storage can be provided for Department of Medicine faculty.

1. DOM storage
  a. Benefits

  • The annual cost will be cheaper than CUMC-IT
  • The data will be backed up regularly and a copy of the data will be kept off-site for safety and redundancy
  • The data will be centralized within the department of Medicine.
  • Members of the Medicine Certified IT group will manage the storage.
  • The data will sit on a certified system so no CUMC-IT charges will apply

  b. Limitations

  • Since the storage device is going to be joined to the Cardiology domain, CardioMed, whoever requests storage space will have to use a logon password different from their MC password to gain access to their data.
  • The drive will be mapped manually and the user will need to enter their password to gain access to the shared/drive whenever the computer is restarted or logged off due to security reasons.

2. CUMC-IT storage
  a. Benefits

  • Same logon and password as other functions
  • The data will be backed up regularly and a copy of the data will be kept off-site for safety and redundancy
  • The data will sit on a certified system so no CUMC-IT charges will apply

  b. Limitations

  • More expensive
  • May require longer lead time for changes
  • Data will be secured by CUMC-IT rather than in the Department

3. Self-storage (the server under the desk) – According to current CUMC IT policy this option is NOT AVAILABLE anymore
