Judith S. Jacobson, DrPH, MBA, is a cancer epidemiologist with a longstanding interest in both complementary/alternative medicine (CAM), because many cancer patients use it, and integrative health care, because it seems like a good idea to use all the best approaches to improve the health of each patient. The challenge is to find out what the best approaches are. She has studied the use of CAM in various patient populations, and continues to do so. Her current research focus is on HIV and cancer in sub-Saharan Africa. She and her colleagues have grants to study the associations of HIV with breast and prostate cancer treatment and outcomes in South Africa; in that context, they are collecting data on their study participants’ visits to traditional practitioners. She is also trained in Reiki (second degree).
