Our comprehensive approach includes discussing the use of medications for weight loss and answering any questions you may have about them. Several medications that can assist weight loss efforts are available. Generally, these medicines work either by suppressing appetite or by blocking absorption of fat. Weight Control Center physicians will help evaluate whether or not the use of medication is right for you. Where appropriate and desired, weight loss medications may be prescribed as an adjunct to lifestyle changes.
Our physicians will also evaluate your current medication regimen, and identify the presence of medicines that may promote weight gain or that may be hindering your weight loss efforts. When appropriate, we will work with you and your primary care physician to make adjustments to medicines which have little to no impact on increasing body weight.
Finally, as part of a university medical center, we are actively engaged in research examining the hormonal regulation of body weight as well as the use of new and emerging therapies for weight loss. If you are interested and eligible for any of these studies, you may enquire about them during your visit.
